D.C. United's Zach Wells undergoes successful foot surgery

Washington, D.C. (November 13, 2008) - D.C. United announced today goalkeeper Zach Wells underwent successful foot surgery. US National Team Podiatrist, Dr. Howard Liebeskind, of the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group, performed the surgery today at the West Hills Surgical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Liebeskind removed a damaged tibial sesamoid bone from the goalkeeper's left foot. Wells' recovery time is expected to be approximately three months.

In his first season with the Black-and-Red, Wells played in 17 MLS games (all starts) and posted a 8-8-1 record, with one shutout. The goalkeeper was featured in United's three SuperLiga games before suffering from sesamoiditis beginning in late August. Wells returned to action the following month to start in four CONCACAF Champions League games. In all competitions in 2008, Wells played in 31 games (all starts) and put together a record of 13-15-3.
