Washington, D.C. (May 30, 2006) - D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno has been named the MLS Player of the Week for Week 9 after scoring two goals in United's 3-1 win over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday. Moreno scored his team's first two goals in the opening minutes of the contest. His first tally came in the second minute when he headed in a free kick from teammate Christian Gomez. In the 18th minute midfielder Clyde Simms earned a penalty kick for United, which Moreno blasted home past a diving Bo Oshoniyi.

Moreno now leads the United squad with five goals on the season. His last two goals put him on the verge of reaching the 100-goal mark as he now sits at 99 career goals. This is Moreno's second Player of the Week award in 2006 after winning the award in Week 2 for his two-goal performance against Chivas USA on April 8. One of only 10 players to participate in every MLS season since 1996, Moreno has been named MLS Player of the Week six times in his career. Moreno's fellow United forward, Alecko Eskandarian, also won the award in Week 4.

The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected every week throughout the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA).
