
D.C. United's Copa D.C. IX a Success

Washington, D.C. (November 9, 2009) - D.C. United announced today the winner of the Copa D.C. IX, the yearly 6v6 indoor tournament hosted by the club and presented by Volkswagen and supporting sponsor, The Electrical Alliance. Charm City FC ended La Mara's string of eight consecutive championships by defeating the favorite 3-2 to claim the 2009 title. Becoming only the second team to ever win the event, Charm City FC takes home a check for $3,000, a first place trophy, gold medals for everyone on the team, and a free entrance into next year's Copa D.C. X.
The tournament featured sixteen elite teams from the greater Washington D.C. and Baltimore area. Each team played three group stage matches on November 7, with the top eight teams then advancing to the knockout phase. The quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals were held on November 8 at the Rockville SportsPlex.
