D.C. United's Ben Olsen and Josh Gros sign new contracts

Washington, D.C. (January 9, 2006) - D.C. United announced today the club has signed both Ben Olsen and Josh Gros to new contracts. Each has spent there entire career to date as a member of the four-time MLS Cup champions. Per Major League Soccer policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Olsen contributed two goals and four assists during the 2005 campaign. He also made four appearances for the U.S. Men's National Team during its Gold Cup championship run and is currently in training camp with the team in Carson, Calif. Olsen has the third-most career assists (38) in United history, he was named the League's 1998 Rookie of the Year and was a part of the Black-and-Red's League championships in 1999 and 2004. A fixture in the community, Olsen was named the U.S. Soccer Humanitarian of the Year following the 2003 campaign.

"Ben has been a huge part of D.C. United for eight years, and we are pleased to have re-signed him," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "His commitment to this club, on and off the field, is beyond reproach. We look forward to having him with our organization for many years to come."

"D.C. has always been special to me and I'm proud to have been with D.C. United my entire career," added Olsen. "The fans are the best in the League, and I really enjoy being a part of the community. United is a fantastic organization, and I hope to remain here for as long as I continue playing."

Gros played the second most minutes on the team in 2005 (2,563), just four less than midfielder Brian Carroll. After a one-goal, four-assist performance during his rookie year campaign in 2004, the Mechanicsburg, Penn. native notched four goals and four assists in his second year. Gros also earned the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week for his line drive, diving header versus Columbus on May 7.

"Josh has been a solid contributor for us during the past two seasons," said Kasper. "We believe that he has a bright future in the game, and we look forward to further contributions on the field."
