D.C. United Signs Bill Hamid to New Contract

Washington, D.C. (March 31, 2011) - D.C. United announced today the club has signed goalkeeper Bill Hamid to a new contract. With his new deal, Hamid's salary will now count against United's budget. Hamid became the youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to win a League contest on May 5, 2010 against Kansas City. The previous record holder was former New York goalkeeper and current Everton player, Tim Howard.

"Bill has worked hard in the past two years to improve every facet of his game and he is deserving of this new deal," said General Manager Dave Kasper. "We look for big contributions from him in the future and we are pleased to have secured his services for years to come."

Hamid made United history in 2009 when he became the first D.C. United Academy player to sign with the first team. The then 19-year-old played in eight games for United during the 2010 MLS season, posting one shutout and making 20 saves. His final appearance of the season was against Columbus on September 9 before undergoing season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Per club and League policy, specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.
