D.C. United re-signs Domenic Mediate

Washington, D.C. (June 28, 2007) - D.C. United announced today the club has re-signed Domenic Mediate as a member of its senior roster. Able to play both in the defense and midfield, he has been training with the team for several weeks and has played in four reserve games (three starts) this year. He is available for selection in tonight's match with the Colorado Rapids at RFK Stadium (7 p.m. ET), which will be nationally broadcast on ESPN2.

"You know what you get each and every day with Domenic and we are pleased that he has earned his spot back at D.C. United," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "His versatility and reliability will be important to our team as we get into the busy part of our season."

This is Mediate's second stint with United. The 25-year old was originally obtained from the Columbus Crew on March 14 last year. He made eight appearances (two starts) during the 2006 season, but suffered a broken leg against the Los Angeles Galaxy on August 26, the result of a tackle from behind by Ugo Ihemelu. Mediate returned for training camp in January, but was not offered a contract to begin the season.

Mediate was originally drafted 23rd overall in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew. During the 2005 season, he saw action in 11 games (four starts) for the Crew and notched one goal and an assist. In 2006, he joined United and played in eight games, starting two.

Mediate attended the University of Maryland and played for the Terrapins from 2001-2004. In 2002, he was the team's second leading goal scorer with 13 goals and five assists and was named to the All-ACC All-Tournament team after scoring 2 goals and adding 2 assists in the competition. During his junior season in 2003, Mediate played in 22 matches (21 starts) and scored four goals and added two assists. His performance during the season earned him All-ACC Second Team honors. In his final collegiate season, Mediate scored nine goals (including five game winners) and had nine assists. His most decorated season, Mediate was named to the All-ACC first team, CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, Maryland/Adidas Classic All-Tournament Team and Virginia/Nike Classic All-Tournament team. He finished his career at Maryland with 27 goals (13 game-winners) and 17 assists.
