D.C. United Re-signs Bryan Namoff

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 3, 2005) - D.C. United announced today that the club has re- signed veteran defender Bryan Namoff. Per League and team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. Selected in the second round (15th overall) in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft, the Bradley University product has spent all four of his professional seasons with the Black-and-Red.

"We are very pleased to have reached an agreement that ensures Bryan will remain with D.C. United," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "He has developed into a terrific defender, was an integral part of our 2004 championship team and we look forward to his future contributions to the club."

Namoff became a fixture in the defensive unit for the MLS Cup Champions last season, logging the second-highest total minutes played on the 2004 campaign despite missing two games to injury - an abdominal strain - and a third to suspension. The unassuming veteran remained a vital part of the back line while adding the occasional timely burst into attack. Namoff earned two assists on the year, his second coming as he created a counter-attack opportunity to open the scoring in the season finale against the MetroStars. The 25-year-old scored his first goal for the Black-and-Red in the waining moments of United's conference semifinal victory at RFK Stadium over the MetroStars.

Namoff's heady and dedicated play throughout his career has made him a fan favorite among the United faithful. His effort in 2003 earned him honors when he was presented with the club's first-ever Coaches' Award following the regular season. In 2002, Namoff received only one-third of the playing time he had in 2001, playing only 442 minutes in 11 games (5 starts) and was loaned to A-League affiliate, Richmond Kickers, in August. However, Namoff proved valuable after being recalled from Richmond by moving into the first XI for United's final two contests of the season. He finished his rookie campaign tied for second on the club with seven assists in 15 appearances.
