D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (November 21, 2007) - The San Jose Earthquakes today selected D.C. United midfielder Brian Carroll in the 2007 Major League Soccer Expansion Draft. San Jose selected one player each from 10 of the 13 MLS teams. The Colorado Rapids, Kansas City Wizards and Real Salt Lake were the three teams that did not have a player selected in the draft. Each of the 13 teams was allowed to protect 11 players, leaving all others unprotected and available for selection by the Earthquakes.
"We are disappointed that we are losing Brian to San Jose, but this is the unfortunate reality of expansion," said United General Manager Dave Kasper. "Brian has been a model professional on and off the field for D.C United, and we thank him for his five terrific years at the club. We wish he and his family the best of luck with their new team."
Carroll, a native of Springfield, Virginia, was originally selected by United in the second round (11th overall) in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft out of Wake Forest University. In 2007, the defensive midfielder saw action in 28 games (19 starts), collecting a career high four assists. For his career, the five-year veteran appeared in 121 games for the Black-and-Red, registering two goals and 11 assists.
