D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. - D.C. United announced today it will host the third edition of D.C. United's La Super Copa, a single elimination full side 11-v-11 invitational soccer tournament, presented by Budweiser. RCN, DC Lottery and The Electrical Alliance join in as associate sponsors. The tournament draw will take place from March 17-21, 2008 at a local Hispanic restaurant and all local media are welcome to attend.
The tournament will kick off with first round games on March 29th and April 5th, and will feature 16 elite Hispanic adult teams from local leagues over several Saturdays in March and April at the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Field. The Cup's championship game is scheduled to be played on April 26th. Admission for all games is free of charge.
A registration fee of $399 per team includes 20 complementary Spectator-level tickets to the D.C. United vs. Real Salt Lake match on April 26th, at 7:30pm, and all participating teams will receive one MLS match ball. Teams registering for the tournament are required to have won or been runner-up in their local league. Additionally, a 20-player roster limit per game will be enforced. Rosters are due prior to the beginning of the team's games and players may not appear for more than one team in the tournament. A roster freeze will be in effect beginning with the semifinals.
There will be a cash prize of $5,000 for the Cup winner and $2,000 for the runner-up as well as team trophies and individual medals. In addition to the cash prizes for the finalists, the top four finishers will receive a full set of 20 new adidas team uniforms.
