Danville, VA - The Danville Braves evened up their record tonight at 11-11 and pulled within one game of first place in the Appy League East. The Braves connected for six runs on 11 hits and the pitching staff held Kingsport to just five hits.

Danville got on the board quick in the game on Wednesday night. With one out and Nick Ahmed on first, Brandon Drury's bat came through yet again with another RBI double. The hit was Drury's eighth double of the season and fifteenth run batted in.

Up already, 1-0, the Braves added a second run in the third. Elmer Reyes led off the inning with a double followed by Drury's second hit of the night, a single to left field. With runners at the corners and no one out, Billy Beckwith grounded into a double play, scoring Reyes from third. The Braves were up 2-0.

Danville starter, Dan Winnie, gave up his only run of the game in the top half of the fourth inning. There were two outs in the inning when Greg Pron launched a ball to deep left field for a solo homerun. The homerun would be the only Kingsport run of the entire night and just their third in two games against Danville. Winnie earned his third win of the season tonight. He went six innings, gave up three hits and struck out five. He lowered his ERA to 1.80.

After scoring one more in the fifth inning to make it 3-1, Danville added three more tallies to their score in the sixth. It was the inning of bloop hits. Query was on first with two outs when Kurt Fleming blooped a hit to left field that dropped between the shortstop and left field. Following that, Ahmed hit one high in the air just behind first base. The first baseman, Luke Stewart, was unable to position himself properly as the ball fell in front of him. The bloop by Ahmed allowed Query to score, and then Stewart picked up the ball and sailed a throw over the catcher to allow Fleming to score also. Reyes dropped one more hit into left center allowing Ahmed to score with ease. The score was 6-1 after six.

The stellar Danville bullpen took the reigns from there. Wilson Rivera pitched the sixth, striking out two. John Cornely came in for the eighth and let up a lead off triple but battled back and got out of the inning unscathed. Cody Martin struck out the side in the ninth inning.

The Princeton Rays lost to Burlington tonight and the Bluefield Blue Jays lost on the road in Bristol. With those two teams losing, the D-Braves are now just one game out of the first place spot in the division.

The D-Braves will try to push themselves over .500 with a sweep of the Mets tomorrow night. Ernesto Silva will take the mound for Danville and Bret Mitchell for the Mets.
