Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - The D-Braves took the field looking to even the score with an Astros team that has been the hottest team in the league at the plate so far. However, tonight it was the D-Braves bats that ultimately shined.

Daniel Cordero took the mound to start the night for the Braves. Cordero gets a no decision in the box score, but held his own limiting the Astros opportunities in his five innings of work. The Astros worked the count all night, making Cordero throw a lot of pitches, but he still managed to only give up three hits, one run, and a walk. Cordero also fanned four batters on the evening. Matt Kimbrel gets the win for Danville, his second on the year. Kimbrel allowed a solo home run in the top of the sixth, but settled in to go scoreless for the rest of his time on the hill and strike out three batters. Caleb Dirks came in for two innings as well, pitching the eighth and ninth. Dirks recorded his first career save, while giving up three hits and striking out three.

Second baseman Gerald Chin took control at the plate again for Danville tonight, as he continues to swing the hot stick for the Braves. Chin went 3-4 with an RBI double; Chin came into the game third in the league in RBI, and with his performance tonight raised his batting average to .407 for the year. Jordan Edgerton chimed in again tonight going 1-4 with an RBI single, reaching base with a hit tonight made it four straight games with a hit for the rookie third baseman.

The Astros could not get things going at the plate like they have been all season. Ydarqui Marte, Appy League leader in batting average, was held to a 0-4 performance. Combine that with the nine spot in the lineup, a pairing that mashed the ball last night, Marte and Antonio Nunez went 0-6 from that spot, as opposed to a 7-10 performance last night.

The Danville Braves (5-3) will be back in action tomorrow night as well, as they look to close out the final game of the series against the Greeneville Astros (4-4) with a win. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch at American Legion Post 325 Field in Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
