Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - Joe Daris again wreaked havoc with his speed along the base paths for the D-Braves, which led to the game winning run. Tied at three in the seventh, Daris stole third and managed to score on a critical error, as Blue Jays third baseman Gabrial Cenas missed the catch on the steal attempt. Danville would take the victory by the score of 4-3.

Codey McElroy drove in two runs on the evening for Danville, giving him a total of 12 RBI on the season in his first professional year. McElroy drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, scoring Ozhaino Albies, and then singled to center in the third scoring Jordan Edgerton. Danville would score again in the next at bat as Alejandro Piloto singled to short, scoring McElroy on the throw, giving Danville a 3-0 lead.

Andry Ubiera has had several strong performances this season, and churned out another one last night in Bluefield, West Virginia against the Blue Jays. Ubiera went 4.2 innings, giving up six hits, two walks, three runs (two earned), and struck out five batters. Ubiera now has an ERA of 2.14 on the season for the D-Braves, the best out of the starting rotation.

The bullpen was brilliant again for Danville last night, holding the Blue Jays off as Danville notched a hard fought one run win. The combination of Kyle Kinman and Bradley Roney relieved Ubiera closing out the game for the D-Braves last night, and continued the bullpen's scoreless inning streak. The D-Braves pen is now up to an incredible 39.1 innings straight without giving up a single run. Last night, Kinman pitched 2.1 innings giving up two hits, and striking out three. Roney went the final two innings, allowing two hits, two walks, striking out three, and notching his first career save in the D-Braves 20th win of the season.

The Danville Braves (20-13) will be back in action Saturday, taking on the Bluefield Blue Jays (17-18) in game two of this three game series. Danville will send Daniel Cordero (1-3, 6.91 ERA) to the mound, after he missed his last start due to a rain out against Burlington. He will square off with Bluefield's Jesus Tinoco (1-3, 5.59 ERA). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Bowen Field in Bluefield, West Virginia.
