DANVILLE, VA - The D-Braves came into a series finale with the Princeton Rays looking to close the gap in the Appy League East standings. With Princeton winning the first two of three in a series that included a doubleheader on Sunday, Danville got the offense going and took the fourth game 7-5 to split the series.
Danville's lineup exploded for seven runs after scoring five total runs in the first three games with the Rays. Tonight, run production was a collective effort.
Tanner Murphy scored two runs on the night, the second coming on a solo shot to left field. The home run marked Murphy's D-Braves leading fifth homer of the season, and it put the Braves up 6-4 in the seventh. Murphy finished the game 1-4 with two runs scored.
First baseman Mike Dodig drove in two runs in the fourth inning to give the D-Braves a temporary 4-2 lead over Princeton. Dodig doubled on a line drive to right field that scored Murphy and Jose Morel. Dodig was the only Brave to finish the game with multiple RBI on the night.
Princeton took an early lead over the D-Braves and Max Povse, who gave up four runs for the first time since July 19th, when the big righty gave up five earned in Greeneville. RBI doubles for Nick Ciuffo and Angel Moreno put the P-Rays up 2-1 in the early going in the second. Povse gave up two more in the fourth on two more RBI from Manny Sanchez on a triple past centerfielder Joe Daris and Riley Unroe who singled Sanchez home.
Povse had given up just three earned runs in his last three starts. Tonight the Princeton bats were finding their mark as they tagged Povse for four earned in 6.0 innings of work. Povse allowed eight hits and a walk, while striking out four Rays.
Danville (36-29) hits the road again tomorrow, this time for a three game series with the Bristol Pirates (21-44). The D-Braves look to keep pace in the East, still in third place 0.5 games behind Princeton, and behind Pulaski who owns the tiebreaker. Bristol has been eliminated from playoff contention in the West. Tomorrow night's first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Boyce Cox Field.
