
Mariners Stun Royals in the Ninth to Take the Series

The Pulaski Mariners come back in the ninth to take the final home game of the season 9-8.
The final home game of the regular season did not start in favor of the Mariners. The Royals gain an early lead scoring four runs in the second inning against Pulaski starter Troy Scott (5.57 ERA). Scott pitched one and two-thirds innings, and allowed four runs on five hits, and struck out one.
The bottom of the third starts out promising for the Mariners. Arby Fields singles, and steals with Tom Verdi batting. Verdi reaches on an error, and Fields advances to third. Wayne Taylor singles on a ground ball bringing Fields in for the first Mariner run, but they still trail the Royals 4-1.
The Royals hang another four on the board in the fifth, giving them an 8-1 lead over Pulaski. Logan Moon, Chase Vallot, and Joshua Banuelos all double, and Moon and Vallot score. Brandon Dulin homers scoring both himself and Banuelos.
Pulaski comes back in the bottom of the seventh with a homerun by Gianfranco Wawoe. Fields triples on a fly ball to center field, and Verdi singles bringing him home. Taylor brings home Verdi and himself on the second homerun of the inning bringing the Royals down to an 8-5 lead.
Pulaski makes a huge comeback in the ninth inning. Fields and Verdi single, and Taylor walks loading the bases with Mariners. With Jose Leal batting, a wild pitch by Cole Way scores Fields. Georvic Perez singles sending Verdi home. Taylor scores on a walk by Yordi Calderon. Taylor Zeutenhorst scores on a sacrifice fly by Jay Baum giving the Mariners a 9-8 lead, and winning the game.
The Mariners will make their way to Bluefield for the final series of the regular season. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
