Lancaster Stormers News Release
LANCASTER, Pa-He's covered in red, he's a little overweight, he has an affinity for cookies and he's going to be giving hundreds of presents to children across Lancaster county this holiday season. Would you guess ... Cylo?
The Lancaster Barnstormers mascot-with plenty of help from Santa, of course-begins a Holiday Adventure on Saturday, Dec. 15 that will take him to homeless shelters across the county delivering toys to needy children and spreading joy to families in need.
"This week will be the most fun Cylo has all year," Barnstormers general manager Kevin Cummings said. "There's nothing he enjoys more than seeing smiles on children's faces. That's why we wanted to make a special effort this holiday season to give some needy children extra reason to smile."
Cylo will distribute thousands of dollars worth of children's games and toys purchased at discount prices courtesy of K-B toys in the Park City Mall. Money for the toys comes from the Cylo Fund, raised during the baseball season in exchange for video board messages.
Cylo's Holiday Adventure begins Saturday at 1 p.m. when he visits the Clare House Holiday Party held at the Ross Street United Methodist Church. Clare House is a transitional housing center for homeless women and children.
The next stop for Cylo will be Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Water Street Rescue Mission. Cylo and his friends from the Barnstormers front office will serve lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. and distribute gifts. Next, he'll graze over to the Lancaster Shelter for Abused Women at 6 p.m. and the Crispus Attucks Community Center on South Duke Street at 7 p.m.
Just like Santa, Cylo will be busy on Christmas Eve. He'll lend a hand during the Lancaster County Project for the Needy's turkey distribution, held this year at Clipper Magazine Stadium, and the Lancaster City Police Department's Toys for Tots distribution at 9 a.m. From there, his Holiday Adventure rolls on with stops at the Transitional Living Center on East King Street at 3 p.m., the Milagro Houses on South Christian Street at 3:30 p.m. and West Chestnut Street at 4:15 p.m. Cylo's Adventure winds up back at the Water Street Rescue Mission for dinner at 5 p.m.
