Cyclones win 2-1
August 12, 2005 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY - The Cyclones only managed to collect five hits on Friday night, but with Jeff Landing on the mound that was more than enough for Brooklyn. Landing (3-5) had one of his most impressive outings of the season on Friday night, limiting the New York-Penn League's top offensive squad to only one run on five hits over 7.2 innings of dominant pitching. Landing was aided by the three double plays that were turned behind him en route to the Cyclones 2-1 victory.
Brooklyn jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning when a clutch two-out single from Drew Butera plated Nick Evans and gave the Cyclones a 1-0 edge. The teams matched zeros until the bottom of the sixth when Brooklyn added to their lead courtesy of an Evans RBI single that pushed the Cyclones advantage to 2-0. The ValleyCats trimmed the lead to 2-1 after a solo home run in the eighth but the combination of Jeff Landing and Robert Paulk shut the door on Tri-City and closed out the 2-1 victory. Paulk picked up his second save of the year after pitching 1.1 innings of perfect relief for the âClones.
The Cyclones heads to Williamsport for a critical three-game series with the Crosscutters, that begins Sunday at 7:05pm. Waner Mateo (4-1, 2.13 ERA) will take the mound for Brooklyn in hopes of building on tonight's victory. The Cyclones will return to KeySpan Park on Tuesday for a two game set with the New Jersey Cardinals. Great seats are still available for Tuesday and all Cyclones home games by calling (718)507-TIXX, logging on to www.brooklyncyclones.com, or in person at the KeySpan Park Box Office.
