Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY - For the second night in a row the Cyclones (31-26) fell behind early but came out on top in the end, topping the Crosscutters by the score of 5-2. With the win, Brooklyn pushed their winning streak to four games and are now only 2.5 games behind the Oneonta Tigers for the wildcard. Greg Gonzalez kept up his scorching hitting, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Joe Holden went 2-for-4 with an RBI, as the pair were the offensive catalysts from atop the Cyclones lineup.
The Crosscutters took an early 1-0 lead, scoring a single run in the top of the first, but in the bottom of the frame Matt Anderson's second home run since joining the Cyclones less than a week ago, evened the score at 1-1. Williamsport bounced right back though, getting another runner across the plate in the top of the second, to take a 2-1 advantage. The lead was short lived however, because in the bottom of the third the Cyclones jumped in front for good. Mo Chavez started the rally with a lead off single, and later came around to score on a Gonzalez triple. One batter later, Matt Anderson plated Gonzo with a sacrifice fly to give Brooklyn their first lead of the night, at 3-2. The Cyclones tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth on a Joe Holden single and a Mo Chavez ground out to make the final score 5-2.
Jorge Reyes (4-3) got the win for the Cyclones after allowing two runs on five hits over five innings of work. Kevin Tomasiewicz pitched three scoreless innings of relief to set up Robert Paulk who closed out the game for his third save of the year.
The Cyclones will look to continue their winning ways when they take on the Aberdeen IronBirds Saturday evening at 6:00pm. All-Star RHP Bobby Parnell (2-1, 1.58) will make the start for Brooklyn. Great seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling (718)507-TIXX, in person at the KeySpan Park Box Office, beginning at 10:00am, or by logging on to www.brooklyncyclones.com.
