BURLINGTON, VT --- Francisco Plasencia went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-out bases loaded single in the bottom of the 10th to break a 5-5 tie as the Vermont Expos scored two runs in the inning for a 6-5 victory over the Oneonta Tigers in New York-Penn League action Friday night at Centennial Field.

Vermont had built a 3-0 lead after seven innings behind a run in the third, two runs in the seventh and the starting pitching of Carlos Martinez. After allowing just one run on two hits over six innings in his last start at Tri-City on August 13th, Martinez gave up just two hits in his first seven innings of work on Friday.

Martinez got out of two-on, no-out trouble in the third inning with a double play and after allowing a leadoff double in the fourth, retired 12 straight batters through the seventh inning.

But Oneonta finally reached Martinez and reliever Edward Rodriguez for four runs in the eighth inning for a 4-3 lead. The Tigers got on the board with a leadoff homer from Jeffrey Larish in the eighth and scored another run off Martinez on a wild pitch. Rodriguez, who relieved Martinez with one runner on and one out in the eighth, then gave up a single and two-run double to Justin Justice to give Oneonta the lead.

Vermont tied the game in the ninth as Leonard Davis led off the inning with his fourth triple of the season, a blast off the centerfield wall, and Plasencia followed with a sacrifice fly. Oneonta retook the lead in the 10th on a two-out groundball double down the leftfield line by Cory Middleton for the 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the 10th, Mike Daniel led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from John Poppert. Lorvin Louisa followed with an RBI single, his third hit of the night, to leftfield to tie the game. A single from Jose Contreras and walk to Andy Lane loaded the bases with one out. Tiger closer Loren Fraser, who had also allowed the tying run in the ninth inning, got halfway out of the jam by striking out Davis.

But then Plasencia worked the count to 3-2 and fouled off one pitch before lining an RBI single through the hole between first and second to plate Louisa with the winning run.

Warmar Gomez (2-3) allowed one run on three hits in two innings for the win, while Martinez finished his 7.1 innings with three runs allowed on five hits. Fraser (2-2), who entered the game with a 1.48 ERA, was touched for three runs on six hits in 1.2 innings for the loss.

Rolando Arendo matched Plasencia and Louisa with three hits for Vermont as the Expos pounded out 15 hits in the game. William Rhymes went 2-for-5 with two runs for Oneonta (33-23).

Vermont (20-38), which beat the Tigers for the first time in eight meetings this season, will host Oneonta in the third game of the four-game series at Centennial Field on Saturday night beginning at 7:05 p.m. with Gene Yost getting the start for the Expos.
