Cyclones Get Commitments From Four Free Agents

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The 2008 Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones, announced today that they have added two forwards and two defensemen to the training camp tryouts in October. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Forwards Mikael Bedard and Nicolas Robillard will join defensemen Paul Lynch and Brian Porter in competing for roster spots this fall. Lynch and Porter are in camp after earning tryouts from the Cyclones Free Agent camp in August.
Bedard, 20, played with Nanaimo (BCHL) last season, collecting 31 goals and 40 assists for 71 points in 59 games. The five-foot-ten, 190 pounder from Montreal spent the 2006-07 season between Dauphin (MJHL) and Nanaimo, collecting 69 points (28-41-69) in 59 games between the teams. He collected seven points in the BCHL All-Star Game last season.
Robillard, 22, played at the University of Moncton last season, tallying 14 goals and ten assists for 24 points in 28 games. The six-foot-4, 212 pounder is a native of Brossard, Quebec. He appeared in 175 games in the QMJHL during his junior career, amassing 43 goals and 42 assists for 85 points and 246 penalty minutes. He was a teammate of Cedrick Desjardins when Quebec won the Memorial Cup in 2005-06.
Lynch, 26, spent last season in the SPHL between Columbus (GA) and Knoxville, picking up a goal and 18 assists for 19 points and 121 penalty minutes in 48 games. The six-foot-three, 220 pounder from Salem, Massachusetts was a fifth round selection (#138 overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He has 65 games of ECHL experience between Johnstown, Charlotte and Louisiana in 2004-05, picking up a goal and eight assists for nine points and 71 penalty minutes.
Porter, 20, played for Humberview (GTHL) last season, leading the Huskies to the league championship. He collected twelve goals and 46 assists for 58 points and a +49 plus/minus rating in 46 games. The five-foot-nine, 175 pounder, hails from Brampton, Ontario.
"We're looking forward to watching these guys compete against ECHL competition," Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "We have had success finding players that may be off the radar for some teams. Jarred Mohr and Sean Perkins have been success stories this way and there might be at least one more this season."
Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones open the season at Wheeling on Friday, October 17 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Dayton on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. There will be a special Kelly Cup championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.
