FRESNO, CALIF. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that defenseman Kenny MacAulay has agreed to terms for the 2008-09 season.

MacAulay returns for his second season in Fresno after appearing in 43 regular-season games as a rookie last year, while also being named to the National Conference squad for the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton.

The 25-year-old scored four goals and added 17 assists for 21 points with the Falcons last season, while finishing second on the club with a +13 rating. MacAulay was loaned to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs on February 6, where he spent the balance of the regular season, appearing in 18 games and notching one assist. He returned to Fresno for the Kelly Cup Playoffs where he scored three points in six games. MacAulay will attend training camp with Rockford, the Falcons' AHL affiliate for the 2008-09 season, beginning on September 27.

"It's always good to return a first-year All Star," Falcons head coach and general manager Matt Thomas said. "The time that Kenny spent in Rockford last year made him a legitimate American Hockey League prospect. We look forward to him coming back to Fresno and improving on a solid rookie campaign."

Prior to turning pro last season, MacAulay played college hockey at the University of Findlay before transferring to the University of Vermont for his final three collegiate seasons. In 109 games with the Catamounts, MacAulay scored 11 goals and added 42 assists for 53 points.

Opening Night 2008 at Selland Arena is set for Friday, October 24, when the Falcons host their arch-rivals, the Bakersfield Condors, at 7:35 p.m. Season Ticket packages start at just $432, and are now available by calling the Falcons at (559) 485-7825.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 23 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 828 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
