Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The bats were alive in Brooklyn, but the Cutters pitching couldn't hold up in a 9-5 loss to the Cyclones.

Trying to overcome a four run bottom of the first allowed by Williamsport starter Ulises Joaquin, the Cutters were able to rally back to take the lead, but Nic Hanson couldn't hold it.

Brooklyn had Cole Frenzel triple in the game's first two runs, before Stefan Sabol drove in another with a double, and Dimas Ponce capped the first inning with an RBI-single to make it 4-0.

Williamsport struck right back in the second, as a Yan Carlos Olmo grounder was misplayed on the Brooklyn infield to score Chris Serritella, who finished with two doubles.

The Cutters then took the lead on a four-spot in the fifth. Mitch Walding sent a line drive up the middle to plate Brian Pointer. Then, another Cyclone error made it 4-3. Larry Greene, who has struggled with runners in scoring position, sent a double deep to the wall in left, scoring Walding and Olmo to give Williampsort a 5-4 lead.

But the rally was ruined by fireworks in the bottom of the fifth. Home runs by Sabol and Brandon Nimmo gave Brooklyn the decisive 9-5 lead that they would carry to the finish line.

The loss was Williamsport's fifth in a row as their record drops to 7-10. They try again tomorrow against Brooklyn, starting at 7pm. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
