Cutthroats Take the Loss in Shootout

Denver - The Denver Cutthroats returned to the Denver Coliseum on Tuesday, February 4 to host the Rapid City Rush for the first night in the three-game series. The Cutthroats fell to the Rush 2-1 in a shootout, dropping their shootout record to 1-6 on the season.

After a scoreless opening period, Denver's Steve Kaunisto (Garett Bembridge, Troy Schwab) scored the opening goal of the night to take a 1-0 lead over Rapid City.

With 13:35 remaining in regulation, Rapid City Rush's Jesse Schultz (Konrad Reeder, Winston Day Chief) found the back of the Denver Cutthroats net to tie the game at one. Denver's netminder Kent Patterson stopped 35 shots on goal and Rapid City's goaltender Tim Boron denied 24 total shots to send the game into overtime.

Following five minutes with no victor, the teams faced off for their third shootout of the 2013-14 season series. Rapid City's Jared Brown scored the game-winning goal to give the Rush a 2-1 victory over the Denver Cutthroats.

The Denver Cutthroats and Rapid City Rush will face off next Friday, February 7 at the Denver Coliseum. The three-game series will conclude on Saturday, February 8. For ticket information, visit DenverCutthroats.com or call 866.464.2626.
