Denver Cutthroats News Release


DENVER - The Denver Cutthroats begin a seven-game road trip this week to close out their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League. The Fish are in the middle of the playoff chase, seven points away from clinching a postseason berth.

Last week's record: 1-1-1

Overall record: 28-23-8, T-5th in the Berry Conference

March 5 vs. Rapid City Rush, 2-1 Win

Kent Patterson stopped 33-of-34 shots in his return from the American Hockey League to lead the Cutthroats to a 2-1 win. AJ Gale and Brad Smyth each scored for Denver.

March 8 at Wichita Thunder, 9-5 Loss

13 of the 14 total goals scored came in the second and third period as Denver dropped their final meeting of the season against Wichita. AJ Gale finished with two goals and Gabe Gauthier tallied three assists for the Cutthroats.

March 10 vs. Rapid City Rush, 4-3 Shootout Loss

Denver scored three goals in the third period to force overtime, but Rapid City's Scott Wray ended the game with the shootout-winner in round six. Kent Patterson stopped 43 shots for the Cutthroats in the team's final home game of the regular season.

The Cutthroats have an opportunity this week to move past Missouri for fifth place in the CHL standings and lock up a playoff spot in their games against Bloomington. The Cutthroats are 3-2-1 against the Mavericks this season and the road team has won four of the six meetings so far this year. Denver is 4-1-0 against the Blaze this season, but split the two previous meetings in Bloomington.
