Denver Cutthroats News Release
DENVER, Colo. - Two early goals and 22 saves by goaltender Brad Fogal was the difference on Saturday night as the Fort Worth Brahmas topped the Denver Cutthroats by a 4-1 final at Denver Coliseum.
Gabe Gauthier scored the lone goal for Denver (5-7-0) and extended his goal streak to five games. He now has seven goals in the last eight contests for the Fish.
It did not take long for Fort Worth (4-5-2) to take an advantage on the scoreboard as Phil Fox scored two goals early, the first at 2:58 and the second at 5:22 of the opening period.
Denver's best chance to score in the opening frame came with 5:03 left as Jamie MacQueen got the puck in the low slot and let a point-blank shot go, but Fogal was in position to make one of multiple key saves throughout the contest.
The Cutthroats had their scoring chances early in the middle period as Luke Fulghum missed on a one-timer that went off the side of the goal net in the first minute and A.J. Gale snapped a wrist shot off the post at 3:50 of the stanza.
Denver was finally able to score in the second period with Gauthier getting the power play goal on a wrist shot from the right circle at 6:47. Brett Lutes and J.P. Chabot picked up assists on the Gauthier tally, with Lutes extending his point streak to five games.
Cutthroats goaltender Kent Patterson played solid in the crease for most of the game as he kept Denver in the contest in the second and third periods. He finished with 29 saves on 32 shots, including a breakaway stop in the second and two diving saves in the third to keep the score close.
Fort Worth added two more goals in the third period, Sy Nutkevitch on his knees at the top of the crease at 7:27 and then an empty net goal by T.J. Fox with 2:19 remaining.
The Cutthroats finished 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Brahmas went 1-for-3
The Cutthroats hit the road for the Thanksgiving holiday next week to begin a four-game stretch in five days, all against the Rapid City Rush. The first two games will be played on Wednesday and Friday in the Black Hills before the series shifts to the Denver Coliseum on Saturday and Sunday.
