BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Nicklas Lindberg's third period power play goal broke a 2-2 tie and the host Bloomington Blaze went on to edge the Quad City Mallards 3-2 Saturday night.

Lindberg- who also picked up an assist- followed up a fine Matthew Larke rush to sweep the puck home from close range at 8:40 of the third. The Blaze and relief goaltender Gerry Festa- who made 23 saves after replacing started netminder Dan Dunn when Dunn exited with an apparent injury early in the second period- held the Mallards off the rest of the way even after Quad City pulled goalie Jimmy Spratt for an extra attacker with just over a minute remaining.

After a scoreless first period, the game ignited in a see-saw second period that saw each team score twice. The Mallards were on the power play when Jeremy Boyer poked in a rebound to give Quad City a 1-0 lead at 7:04 of the second. That lead lasted until Jon Booras's blast from the left wing circle tied the score at 16:56. With just 30 seconds left in the period the Blaze took the lead for the first time when Larke buried the puck from the crease after Lindberg hit the post. The Bloomington advantage lasted a mere 16 seconds before the Mallards' Mickey Lang jammed in Boyer's centering pass to even the score with just 14 seconds left in the period.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. Tomorrow is the Mallards' first Family Skate Day presented by Genesis Health System. Fans can bring their skates and join the team on the ice immediately after the Mallards' battle with the Rush.
