New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT - Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, centerfielder Ervin Alcantara crushed a two-run homer (5) to force a 10th inning where left fielder Henri Stanley doubled and later came around to score on a wild pitch to push the New Haven County Cutters to a 5-4 victory, Monday night, and a four-game series split against the Nashua Pride at Historic Yale Field.

Alcantara's home run, his third in three games, was off former Major Leaguer RHP Rich Garces.

Cutters' LHP starter Rolando Valles was outstanding through 7.0 innings and carried a 2-1 lead into the eighth before surrendering a three-run homer to shortstop Olmo Rosario (6) that put the Pride ahead, 4-2.

Reliever RHP Andy Weimer (1-2) took over for Valles after the home run and retired all nine batters he faced to earn the win.

Pride starter RHP Hideki Nagasaka tossed 7.0 strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits and struck out seven. He was inline for the win before Alcantara's ninth inning heroics.

Designated hitter Jeremy Pickrel put the Cutters on the board in the first inning with a two-run double.

Pride first baseman Andy Duplissie connected for a solo shot (6) in the second to cut the Cutters' lead to 2-1.

Removed from the inactive list an hour before game time, Pride left fielder Tom Creighton went 4-for-5 with a run scored in the loss.

Pride reliever Jason Kosow (0-1) offered up the leadoff double to Stanley and later threw the wild pitch that allowed him to score as the winning run from third base.

The Cutters now head to Montclaire, NJ, to begin a three-game series against the New Jersey Jackals beginning Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 pm.

LHP Brad Whitworth (3-2, 1.73 ERA) will take the mound in game one.
