Cutters Drop Tight One To Capitales 1-0

New Haven County Cutters News Release


(West Haven, CT- July 31, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters dropped their seventh straight game with a 1-0 loss to the Quebec Capitales, in front of 1,858 fans at Yale Field on "Maria Conlon Night."

The Cutters had a chance to score first in the bottom of the second inning, two consecutive singles by Adam Shorsher and Billy Rich put runners on the corners with one out. Ryan Kane bounced into an inning ending double play.

Quebec would score their lone run of the game with one-out in the fourth inning. After a Shane Hopper single, the hit-and-run was on when Eddie Lantigua hit a laser beam to the gap in left-center that scored Hopper from first. Lantigua tried to stretch a three-bagger out of the hit and was thrown out by a strong relay throw from the outfield.

Tim Keinath, in his first start with the Cutters, threw four innings of two-hit ball, struck out three and allowed one run.

Quebec starter Paul Jacinto threw eight innings of shutout baseball, he allowed one hit after the third inning.

Monday, August 2, 2004 will serve as Bobblection Night, sending baseball fans to the polls in seven different ballparks. Fans will choose between a John Kerry or a George W. Bush bobble-head doll. The candidates doll that runs out first will be declared the winner of that ballpark. From New Haven to Minnesota, South Dakota to Florida, the event will be an early indicator in this Presidential election year.

The Charleston (SC) RiverDogs, Fort Myers (FL) Miracle, Hudson Valley (NY) Renegades, St. Paul (MN) Saints, Brockton (MA) Rox, and Sioux Falls (SD) Canaries have teamed up to provide the country with a unique campaign event. The New Haven (CT) County Cutters, who play in the home ballpark of Yale University, the alma mater of both Presidential candidates and the field President Bush played on for the Bulldogs, have agreed to participate as well.
