Altoona Curve News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - For the second time in the series, the Curve let an early, 3-0, lead slip away in what turned out to be a, 6-4, loss to the Binghamton Mets in the series finale on Thursday. Andrew Lambo homered for the second time in as many days to give him 11 on the season and extend his on-base streak to a season-best 22 games in the loss.
Lambo's homer, which also extended his hitting streak to 10 games, gave the Curve a two-run lead in the sixth inning but Binghamton immediately responded off starter Stolmy Pimentel. After scoring twice in the fifth, the B-Mets added a pair of runs in the sixth to tie it up at four.
The sixth inning would be Pimentel's last of the day as he allowed four runs over his final two innings. Pimentel was charged with four runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out four.
Quinton Miller (0-1) tossed a scoreless seventh before running into trouble in the eighth. Miller hit catcher Xorge Carrillo to start the inning to put the go-ahead run on. Binghamton pinch ran for Carrillo with Alonzo Harris at first and then Wilfredo Tovar pinch hit for the pitcher spot to put down a sac bunt that moved Harris up a bag.
With Harris on second, Miller then hit Danny Muno to put two on with one out. Josh Rodriguez, who had already extended his hitting streak to 16 games earlier in the game, singled through the left side to drive home Harris to put Binghamton out in front for good. Cesar Puello followed with an RBI of his own to make it a two-run game.
Jarek Cunningham walked to start the ninth but was left on the bases as Jeff Walters notched his 13th save of the season.
Altoona scored first in all three games in the series with but winds up with just a 1-2 record over the three games. Cunningham started the scoring in today's game with his solo homer in the second as part of a three-run inning. He finished the day 1-for-2 with his homer and a pair of walks and stolen bases.
With his home run today, Lambo has now hit eight of his 11 home runs this month and has 38 RBI to lead the team.
With a series loss in Binghamton, the Curve (21-32) now travel up to Portland, Maine to take on the Sea Dogs to begin a three-game series at 6 p.m. Friday night from Hadlock Field. On the hill in the opener will be RHP Ethan Hollingsworth (1-3, 5.22), who makes his second spot start of the season. The Sea Dogs will counter with knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (1-2, 3.99) on Friday night.
Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. For tickets and more information on the upcoming Curve homestand that begins on June 4, call 877.99.CURVE, visit AltoonaCurve.com or stop by the ticket windows at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
