Curve swept in double header by Bowie, regular season finale set for Monday

ALTOONA, PA - After rain postponed the first two games of their series, the Curve and Bowie Baysox finally got on the field on Sunday at Blair County Ballpark. The Baysox swept the Curve, winning Game 1, 6-4, and Game 2, 4-2.
Just like in the first game, the Baysox scored first in the nightcap, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after their first two at-bats.
Run-scoring hits by Raul Chavez, Gera Alvarez, and a sacrifice fly by Angel Chavez staked Bowie to an advantage they would not relinquish.
All four runs were scored against Altoona's Josh Shortslef, who lost for just the second time this season, allowing two earned runs in two innings on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The Curve would fight back with two runs in the second inning. Neil Walker walked to start the inning and Javier Guzman tripled with two outs to drive in the team's first run. The next batter, Brant Ust singled up the middle to chase Guzman home and cut the deficit in half.
Matt Peterson pitched well out of the bullpen for the Curve, allowing no runs on four hits in four innings with six strikeouts.
Bowie starter Garrett Olson improved to 4-0 against Altoona this season, giving up two runs in 5 2/3 innings on four hits with five strikeouts.
Landon Jacobsen started Game 1 for the Curve with a chance to tie the franchise record for the most victories in a season, but gave up five runs in the second inning on the way to his ninth loss of the year.
The Baysox started the second inning with a walk and then used three consecutive singles to load the bases and score the first run of the game. After a bases-loaded walk pushed home another run, Gera Alvarez bounced a double down the third-base line that appeared to be foul but was ruled a fair ball and cleared the bases to give the Baysox a 5-0 lead.
After a solo home run by Noah Hall in the top of the third, Brett Roneberg cut into the lead for the Curve with his tenth homerun of the season, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the inning.
The Curve would score twice more in the fifth inning but wouldn't get any closer, managing just a bunt single in their final two at-bats combined.
Radhames Liz started for Bowie and earned the victory, scattering eight hits over four innings and allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts.
Mario Salas retired the final batter of the game to pick up the save after reliever Ryan Keefer had to leave the game with an injury.
Andrew McCutchen was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Guzman chipped in two hits for his team-leading 36th multi-hit game.
The two teams will conclude their regular season schedules with a 6:05 p.m. game on Monday, Labor Day, at Blair County Ballpark. The Curve will send Wardell Starling to the mound against Bowie's Brian Finch. It's FANdemonium at the ballpark with post-game fireworks.
