Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - The Curve had their three-game winning streak snapped and were unable to climb over .500 for the first time in 2008, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Akron Aeros Wednesday afternoon at Blair County Ballpark. The Curve offense was held to only five hits by a pair of Akron hurlers.
Despite the loss, Altoona (9-10) went 4-2 on their rain-shortened six-game homestand and earned their third straight series victory after losing their first three sets of the season.
Akron starter Ryan Edell (1-0) pitched eight scoreless innings and scattered just four hits. Edell retired the last seven batters he faced, as the Aeros' lefty threw just 94 pitches to earn his first victory of the season.
Yoslan Herrera (1-2) surrendered just one run over five innings of work, but it was enough to be charged with the loss. Wes Hodges' sacrifice fly put the Aeros (7-11) up 1-0 in the top of the fourth.
Chris Hernandez pitched two innings of relief for the Curve and allowed one run in the top of the sixth. Jose Constanza's base hit plated Armando Camacaro to put Akron up 2-0.
Against closer Randy Newsom in the bottom of the ninth, the Curve rallied, putting the potential tying run on base, but Anthony Webster hit a comebacker to the mound to end the game as Newsom notched his third save of the year.
The Curve hit the road for a four-game set at Jerry Uht Park in Erie at 6:35 p.m. Righty Josh Hill (1-1, 4.50) will get the start for Altoona, while Erie will counter with right-hander Andrew Kown (1-2, 6.88) . Thursday's game will be broadcast on flagship station WHPA-FM, 93.5 and the Curve Radio Network.
Altoona returns home to play seven games in six days, starting Tuesday, April 29 at 6:35 p.m. as they open a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators (AA/Washington Nationals). Great seats for the homestand are still available and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE, by logging on to AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the Blair County Ballpark Box Office.
