Curve Fall in Extras Again to Wrap up Road Trip

September 1, 2017 - Eastern League (EL1) - Altoona Curve News Release

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Altoona Curve handed the Richmond Flying Squirrels a 4-3 win with a walk-off error in the bottom of the 11th inning on Thursday night at The Diamond in their final regular-season road game of the year.

The first-place Curve (71-65) dropped three of four games on the road trip to the Flying Squirrels (61-75).

Richmond stormed from behind in the bottom of the 11th inning. Aramis Garcia and Jerry Sands led off the inning with back-to-back singles against Sean Keselica (Loss, 4-2). After a sac bunt, Hunter Cole tied the score with a sac fly.

K.C. Hobson reached on a throwing error by Wyatt Mathisen to score Sands from third base, lifting Richmond to the walk-off win.

The Curve broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the eleventh inning. With runners on the corners, Anderson Feliz grounded out to pitcher Tyler Cyr (Win, 5-2), scoring Justin Maffei from third.

Altoona opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out, two-run double by Jin-De Jhang to bring home Jordan George and Jerrick Suiter? against Richmond starter Dan Slania.

Curve starter Brandon Waddell kept the Flying Squirrels off the scoreboard until the seventh inning, when Richmond evened the score. Hunter Cole hit a one-out triple and K.C. Hobson followed with a two-run homer to right field.

Waddell worked seven innings in what will likely be his final start of the regular season, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Tanner Anderson worked three scoreless relief innings with no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

The Curve return home to open a four-game series against Harrisburg on Friday. Right-hander Mitch Keller (1-2, 3.77) will be on the mound for the Curve, opposed by Harrisburg right-hander Brady Dragmire (4-1, 2.93). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at PNG Field.

Thursday's contest marked the 17th extra-inning game of the season for the Curve, tying the franchise record (2003). The Curve have gone to extra innings in their regular-season road finale in three consecutive seasons dating back to 2015.

The gates open at 5 p.m and the first 1,500 fans will take home a Jameson "Suit & Taillon" bobblehead, presented by UniFirst. Plus, Kids Run the Bases and the Miracle League Ball Launch postgame.
