DENVER – Colorado Mammoth forward Curtis Smith was named the National Lacrosse League's rookie of the week Wednesday for his performance in Colorado's 17-10 win over Anaheim.

Smith, the Mammoth's first selection in the 2003 entry draft (24th overall), scored three goals against the Storm – his first career hat trick – and added one assist. The Victoria, British Columbia, native and former Ohio State University star also picked up five loose balls in the game.

"Curtis has been a terrific addition to this team," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "He's played above and beyond his rookie status."

Smith, who missed action early in the season due to a broken hand, had six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 12 games this season. He also picked up 28 loose balls.
