Cummings Plates Two as Flying Chanclas Stumble vs. Wichita

SAN ANTONIO - The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio continued their six-game series against the Wichita Wind Surge on Thursday night. After taking the first two games of the series, the Flying Chanclas struggled to keep up with the Wichita offense on Thursday. The Wind Surge plated 10 runs on 14 hits while San Antonio plated three runs on eight hits. San Antonio drops their first game of the series by a final score of 10-3.

Duncan Snider was the starting pitcher for the Flying Chanclas. After a scoreless first inning, the right-hander surrendered the lead in the top of the second inning and failed to make it out of the inning. With two outs in the frame, Aaron Sabato and Jake Rucker each singled. Seth Gray also singled and drove in Sabato. After walking Will Holland, DaShawn Keirsey Jr. drove in two runs with a double. Jose Espada took over for Snider and allowed a two-run double to Brooks Lee. Wichita took a 5-0 lead.

Travis Adams was the starting pitcher for the Wind Surge. After a scoreless first inning, the right-hander allowed two runs in the second inning and failed to make it through the frame. With one out in the inning, Michael De La Cruz drew a walk and Juan Fernandez hit a double. Cole Cummings drove in both runners with a base hit to center field. Following a strikeout, a single and a walk, Adams was replaced by Michael Boyle. The Missions cut the deficit to 5-2.

The Wind Surge threatened to increase their lead in the top of the third inning. Yunior Severino started the frame with a base hit. After retiring the next batter, Espada issued a walk to Sabato. Rucker drew a walk to load the bases. Gray hit a ground ball to first base and Castellanos made the force out at home for the second out of the inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Holland popped out to end the inning.

Wichita used the long ball to improve their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Leading off the frame, Keirsey, Jr. Hit a home run over the right-center field wall. His sixth long ball of the year made it a 6-2 ballgame.

Espada allowed one earned run across 2.1 innings of work before handing the ball off to Seth Mayberry. Mayberry allowed one earned run across 1.2 innings of work before handing the ball off to Jason Blanchard in the top of the sixth inning.

San Antonio plated their third run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing Francis Peguero, Daniel Johnson doubled to begin the frame. De La Cruz drove in Johnson with a base hit to right-center field. The Flying Chanclas trailed Wichita 7-3.

The Wind Surge added three runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning. Sabato began the frame with an opposite field home run. Lee drove in two runs with a base hit to right field. Wichita improved their lead to 10-3.

Alek Jacob tossed two scoreless frames for the Flying Chanclas across the eighth and ninth innings. He allowed two hits while striking out three batters.

Right-hander Pierson Ohl (0-0, --) is scheduled to pitch for the Wind Surge. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Nelson Wolff Stadium.
