CLEARWATER, Fla—Sometimes when it rains it pours, but not even Mother Nature herself could stand in the way of a Daytona Cubs victory on Thursday night in Clearwater, FL.

The Cubs outlasted a long 1:33 rain delay and held on in the ninth inning to defeat the Clearwater Threshers in Game 1 of the four game set by a final of 3-1.

Cubs lefty Sean Marshall (3-1) got the win and was once again stellar in his seventh start of the season, as he pitched five full innings of shutout ball and struck out five Clearwater batters before the long rain delay ended his night.

The Daytona bullpen came through in support of Marshall however, as they logged four innings of one-run ball, with Thomas Atlee striking out the final two batters in the bottom of the ninth to notch his fifth save of the season.

Offensively, the Cubs were led at the plate by third baseman Scott Moore who went 2-for-3 with his team-leading eighth homerun of the season in addition to a double, walk, two runs scored, and 2 RBI's.

With the win, Daytona improved to 21-17 in the Eastern Division as Clearwater dropped to 10-30 in the west.

Game 2 is scheduled for Friday night at Bright House Networks Field, as the Cubs will send young righty Billy Petrick (1-3, 4.50) to the mound to face Clearwater southpaw Alan Webb (1-1, 8.22). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
