Cubs Shut Out the Yankees for the Second Straight Night

The Daytona Cubs (12-13) pitching staff shut out the Tampa Yankees (9-16) for the second time in as many nights as they picked up their third straight win, 3-0.
The Cubs opened the scoring with a run in the fourth. Left fielder Tyler Colvin tripled to right centerfield with one out and came in to score on a single off the bat of first baseman Russ Canzler.
The Cubs offense would strike again in the top of the sixth. Second basemen Jake Opitz and Colvin both singled to lead off the inning. Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch from Yankees starter Ryan Zink (1-3). Canzler proceeded to pick up his sixth RBI of the series as he hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which allowed Opitz to tag up from third. Catcher Robinson Chirinos gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead after he singled home Colvin who had advanced to third on the Canzler sac fly.
Cubs starter James Leverton (2-2) played with fire but picked up the win as he held the Yankees scoreless through five innings of work. The Yankees did have opportunities against Leverton, most notably in the bottom of the third inning.
With the bases loaded and just one away in the frame Leverton found a way out of the jam when he got Yankees third baseman Brandon Laird to ground into an inning ending double play.
The Cubs bullpen picked up where Leverton left off as Jake Muyco did not allow a run in three innings of work and David Cales picked up his fourth save of the year.
The Cubs will go for the sweep tomorrow morning before heading back home, with the first pitch set for 11 a.m.
