Iowa Cubs News Release

The Salt Lake Bees out-pitched Iowa, beating the Cubs 1-0 Monday night at Principal Park.

Iowa starter Thomas Diamond struck out eight batters in six innings. He allowed one run and that was all Salt Lake would need. The run was a fourth-inning home run by Salt Lake's left fielder, Cory Aldridge.

Chris Robinson had three hits in the loss. Robinson singled in the second, seventh and ninth innings. Bobby Scales doubled to start the seventh inning before Robinson's single. However, the rally would end there. Scales hit the only extra-base hit in the game while Brad Snyder collected two hits.

The Bees' Daniel Davidson (5-1, 5.20) picked up the win, pitching scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out six. Diamond (3-1, 2.01) was tagged with the loss for Iowa.

The Cubs and Bees play game two of this four-game series Tuesday at 12:05 p.m.
