Aces Drop Wild Game to 'Tops, 9-8 in 11 Innings

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Aces lost in walk-off fashion for the second-straight night, this time falling 9-8 to Albuquerque Monday night in the second-longest game in franchise history.

Trailing 7-0 after three innings, the Aces clawed back to take an 8-7 lead in the sixth inning, before Albuquerque sent the game to extras with a late run. Reno scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings, mounting what would have been the largest comeback victory in franchise history.

Reno had a chance to take another lead in the ninth, putting two runners on with no outs, but couldn't push across the go-ahead run. Albuquerque would eventually plate the winning run on an Ed Rogers throwing error in the 11th, ending a four-plus hour game that saw the two teams combine for 17 runs, 33 hits and five errors.

Kris Benson started for Reno on a Major League rehab assignment, allowing six earned runs in two innings of work. Four Aces relievers would keep Reno in the game before Jason Urquidez (2-1) gave up the winning run with no outs in the 11th.

Jon Link (2-1) earned the win for the 'Topes, holding Reno scoreless over the final two frames. Josh Lindblom started for Albuquerque, allowing all eight Aces runs, seven of which were earned.

Mark Hallberg, Jeff Bailey and Ed Rogers combined to go 9-for-16 for Reno, with Bailey and Rogers adding two RBIs apiece. Reno left 14 men on base in the game, the highest total in franchise history, while batting 6-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

Reno and Albuquerque square off in the second game of this four-game set Tuesday evening. Reno will send Matt Torra (2-2, 3.42 ERA) to the hill against Albuquerque RHP Tim Corcoran (3-3, 4.72 ERA). First pitch from Albuquerque's Isotopes Park is set for 5:35 p.m. PT, and can be heard live in Reno on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM.

The Aces return home Friday, May 28, for a 7:05 p.m. contest against Sacramento, which kicks off a four-game set against the River Cats.
