Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - Opening day for the Eugene Emeralds is less than 90 days away. Although the Emeralds team has not been announced, fans should be ready for some excitement at PK Park this summer. In September, the Eugene Emeralds announced their new Player Development Contract with the Chicago Cubs, who were recently named the Top Farm System in Baseball.

When Baseball America (BA) released their annual Prospect Handbook in February the Chicago Cubs were placed in the top spot in their Organizational Ranking. This came on the heels of ESPN's Keith Law and The Sporting News also ranking the Cubs the top farm system for 2015. Five Cubs prospects made the Top 50 list of various BA writers. This includes Kris Bryant, who was drafted by the Cubs in 2013 and made his Northwest League debut at PK Park that summer. While playing against the Ems, Bryant batted .354 with four home runs, he is now named the #1 prospect in 2015.

With draft choices like that, it's easy to get excited to see who the Cubs will send to Eugene this year. The three-day MLB First-Year-Player draft begins June 8 with the Cubs holding the number nine overall selection in the first-round which will once again be televised on MLB Network. Players and coaches are set to report to Eugene on the 15th with media day tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 17.

This year the Eugene Emeralds proudly celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Since 1955, over 300 Emeralds alumni have made it to the Big Leagues. Our rich history includes players like Mike Schmidt, Bob Boone, Tom Gordon, Eric Davis and most recently 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. For the 2015 season, the Emeralds have made a major affiliation change by signing with the Chicago Cubs. Season tickets, mini plans and group tickets for 2015 can be purchased at www.EmeraldsBaseball.com, by phone 541-342-5367 and in person by visiting the Emeralds Box Office located next to PK Park. Individual game tickets will go on sale in May.
