Cubs Fall to Salt Lake, 9-3

The Iowa Cubs fell to the Salt Lake Bees, 9-3 Wednesday night at Principal Park.

The Cubs, who have won their past 13 of 16 games, were unable to recover from Salt Lake's five-run second inning. Chad Tracy got the Cubs on the board in the first inning with a solo home run. It was his second of the year with Iowa.

Ten Salt Lake batters stepped to the plate in the second inning, while the team took a 5-1 lead. Mark Trumbo started things off with solo homer before Hainley Statia hit a two-run double. Terry Evans doubled in another run for the fifth run in the inning. The Bees notched another run in the third inning to edge the Cubs, 6-1.

Brad Snyder led off the fourth inning with a double for Iowa. Snyder was 2-for-4 Wednesday. He scored on Chris Robinson's single and Jim Adduci scored on Matt Camp's single to make it 6-3.

The Bees came back with another run in the seventh inning as Trumbo hit a run-scoring single. He was 2-for-5 with two runs. Salt Lake plated another pair of runs in the top of the ninth for the 9-3 final.

Mitch Atkins (3-2, 3.25) took the loss. He threw five innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits. Trevor Reckling (4-3, 6.1) got the win for the Bees.

Iowa and Salt Lake wrap up this series tomorrow with a 12:05 start at Principal Park.
