DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Daytona Cubs (55-46, 21-10) beat the Palm Beach Cardinals (55-45, 16-14) 7-3 in Tuesday night's series opener. Brooks Raley (6-6) worked into seventh inning to pick up the victory. The D-Cubs well-rounded offensive unit attacked early and rallied late.

The Cubs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning off of Cards starter Kevin Thomas. Shortstop DJ LeMahieu, second baseman Ryan Flaherty, and designated hitter Michael Brenly swatted three straight one-out singles. Brenly's line drive to center field brought home LeMahieu. First baseman Rebel Ridling then came through with two outs as he singled in Flaherty to give Daytona a 2-0 lead.

Palm Beach answered with a run in the top of the second inning. First baseman Richard Racobaldo singled and then scored on a double by left fielder Jarred Bogany.

Bogany came through again in the top of the fourth inning. Racobaldo once again set the table for the left fielder with a two-out single. The Texas native then lined a home run just inside the left field foul pole to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.

Daytona took advantage of two Cardinal errors in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead back. Catcher Mark Reed reached on a lead-off walk and left fielder Greg Rohan followed with a single down the third base line to chase starter Kevin Thomas from the game. Righty Matthew Frevert came in and got Junior Lake to fly a ball down the right field line, but Alex Castellanos dropped it and loaded the bases for David Macias. The Cubs would strike for three runs, two coming in on a David Macias fielder's choice off a throwing error by catcher Charlie Cutler. DJ LeMahieu would plate Macias from third to give the D-Cubs a 4-3 lead.

The Cubs continued their offensive production in the seventh inning by plating two more runs. Kyler Burke scored on a Junior Lake single, and Rebel Ridling would come in on a David Macias RBI single to extend the Cubs lead to 7-3.

The Cardinals wouldn't back away however by scoring two runs in the eighth inning off D-Cubs reliever Michael Perconte. The Palm Beach Cardinals got within two runs at 7-5, before Perconte slammed the inning shut by inducing an inning ending groundout to LeMahieu at short.

Brooks Raley (6-6) picked up the win and Matthew Frevert (6-2) took the loss. Michael Perconte added his sixth save.

The Cubs and Cardinals continue their series on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. It will be Camp Day once again out at "The Jack" as well as a Radiology Associates $1 Wednesday. Select concession items are just $1.
