Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
DUNEDIN, FL (July 27th, 2010) - After a slow offensive weekend against the Manatees, the Miracle bats woke up on Tuesday night in Dunedin with a 13 hit performance in a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Deibinson Romero was the key cog, crushing two home runs and driving in three of the four runs. Fort Myers moves back to .500 in the second half at 15-15, and sit just two games back in the FSL South standings.
Miracle starter Dan Osterbrock (5-8) was outstanding, allowing just two runs in six innings of work for the win. He allowed just six hits, and struck out eight. Michael Allen tossed two perfect innings in relief, including three strikeouts, and Dakota Watts pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save in in the Florida State League.
Deibinson Romero got the scoring started in the top of the first, smacking a two-run home run against Dunedin starter Ryan Page (3-7) with two-outs. With the score tied 2-2 in the sixth, Romero led the inning off with his second home run of the night, a monster blast over the left-field wall. Page lasted six innings, and took the loss as he allowed nine hits to the Miracle, five for extra bases.
The D-Jays scratched their only runs of the night in the third on a sac-fly by Ryan Goins and a one-out RBI groundout by Travis D'Arnaud.
Up 3-2, Nick Romero added some insurance for the Miracle in the eighth inning against D-Jay's reliever Dumas Garcia. With two aboard and out out, Romero tripled off the right-field wall to score Deibinson Romero. It could have been a two-RBI play, but Nate Hanson was thrown out at home trying to score from first.
Everyone in the Miracle lineup had at least one hit, with Brian Dozier being the exception. Hanson finished the night with a season-best 4-for-4 at the plate. Angel Morales joined Hanson and D. Romero with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5.
Fort Myers will resume their series with game two against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
