C's Fall 8-5 in Everett Despite Late Inning Rally
June 23, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - A five RBI performance from Everett's CF Jarrett Burgess was enough to stop the Vancouver Canadians winning streak at three games on Wednesday night as the Aquasox topped the C's 8-5 out at Memorial Stadium.
The Canadians jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when 1B Randy Schwartz smacked a two-run single scoring both RF Nick Baligod and LF Eli Boike. The hit for Schwartz snapped an 0-for-11 drought to start the season.
Everett responded in the bottom half of the 2nd inning when CF Jarrett Burgess punched a hit to center field cashing in both DH James Wood and 2B Jorge Agudelo tying the game at 2-2.
Burgess wasn't done as his two-run double in the 4th inning combined with his second home run of the summer in the 6th inning helped Everett to an 8-3 lead heading into the late stages.
Vancouver got solo home runs from C Pierce Rankin and PH Steve McQuail and challenged Everett's bullpen in the top of the 9th inning, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Aquasox topped Vancouver in their home opener 8-5 to move back to .500 on the young Northwest League season.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 4-2 (.667) and now shares top spot with Eugene atop the NWL West Division.
