Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Canadians continued to surge in the Northwest League's North Division as they picked up a fourth straight victory, topping Salem-Keizer 8-4 on Canada Day in front of a sold out Scotiabank Field.
For the second straight game Vancouver dominated early putting up runs in each of the first four frames that helped them build a 7-1 lead, though unlike last night's blowout, the Canadians created much of their own luck with 11 hits over that span.
DH Michael De Le Cruz highlighted a scoring by committee approach with two doubles and an RBI, as seven different C's crossed the plate in the comfortable win. RF Chris Carlson also reached in all four plate appearances drawing three walks to go with a first-inning RBI single.
Starter LHP Zak Wasilewski came within an out of registering his third win of the season, but was lifted in the fifth after loading the bases with two-out. Reliever RHP Yeyfry Del Rosario cleaned up in relief, finishing the fifth, sixth, and seventh allowing just a single walk and three strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season.
The Volcanoes scattered a couple single-run innings in the fifth and eighth before Canadian reliever RHP Andrew Case fittingly came in to close out the game. After giving up an lead-off home run to Volcanoes SS Christian Arroyo, the Saint John, NB native sat down Salem-Keizer in order, guaranteeing a series win for Vancouver, and beating the Volcanoes for the first time on Canada Day after dropping the previous three holiday match-ups.
The win temporarily moves the C's to two-and-a-half back of Spokane for the North division lead, with the Indians in action in Eugene Tuesday night. Vancouver continues the five-game set vs. Salem-Keizer on Wednesday, June 2nd at 7:05pm as the Canadians welcome Steve Garvey out to Scotiabank Field as part of the 2014 Superstar Series presented by The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Blakes.
