C's Blanked for the First Time This Year
June 7, 2023 - Northwest League (NWL)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
EVERETT, WA - The Canadians failed to score for the first time this season and fell to the Everett AquaSox [Mariners] 2-0 on Tuesday night at Funko Field.
The game was won in the bottom of the sixth. With runners at second and third, two outs and two strikes on the batter in a scoreless tie, reliever Abdiel Mendoza (L, 0-2) balked home the eventual winning run. Everett added a big insurance tally in the eighth when top Mariners prospect Harry Ford hit a seeing-eye single with two outs to score a lead-off walk.
C's starter Michael Dominguez was solid over 4.1 scoreless stanzas, but the player of the game was Frogs hurler Brandon Schaeffer (W, 1-0) in his High-A debut. The lefty went 6.1 scoreless innings, scattered four hits, walked one and matched a career high with 10 hits.
Vancouver failed to get a runner past second and mustered only four hits - three singles and a Gabby Martinez double. They are now 1-6 at Funko Field this year.
The Canadians send #9 Blue Jays prospect Adam Macko to the slope on Wednesday to try and even the series opposite Jimmy Joyce. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. on CanadiansBaseball.com, the MiLB First Pitch app and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
