O'FALLON, MO - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, used a five run, fourth inning to capture the series from River City (9-5) on Sunday night. Lake Erie (10-5) saw their five-run lead trimmed to one but some great plays by Bryan DeLaRosa helped seal the win. The Crushers also remain in first place.

Both starting pitchers began the game with three scoreless innings. Rascals starters Lucas Laster (1-1) ran into trouble in the fourth inning.

With one out, Laster left a slider over the plate and Conner Simonetti launched his first home run of the year over the wall in right field. Simonetti had two hits in the game.

The inning would continue to unravel for Laster. After loading the bases, Dane Hutcheon singled home Aaron Hill, making it 2-0. Cameron Newell kept the line moving with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Dalton Wheat. River City committed a throwing error on the play and DeLaRosa scored to make it 4-0.

Kevin Lachance followed with an RBI triple and the Crushers extended their lead to 5-0. Laster only went 3.2 innings while allowing five runs (two earned).

Crushers starter Nick Deeg was dealing on the other side. After allowing a run in the fourth, Deeg retired the Rascals in order in the fifth and then threw a scoreless sixth inning. Deeg (2-0) had started the year with 16 scoreless innings before allowing his first run. He finished with 6.1 innings while allowing one hit but he did walk five.

In the eighth, River City rallied for three runs against Louis Cohen, including a two-run home run by Clint Freeman. Later in the inning with Gerrion Grim at first, the Rascals got aggressive on the base paths but DeLaRosa threw out Grim on his attempt to steal second.

In the ninth, Justin Sinabaldi allowed a one out single to Conner Oliver. River City would try and move the tying run into scoring position again but DeLaRosa nailed Oliver at second to seal the 5-4 win. Sinabaldi picked up his fourth save of the year.

Lake Erie went 4-2 on the six-game road trip. They return home on Tuesday to face the Traverse City Beach Bums at 7:05. Donald Murray will get the start for the Crushers.
