Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Avon, Oh- The Lake Erie Crushers are pleased to announce the second year of Stomper's Reading Club. The goal of the program is to promote the importance of education and literacy, while at the same time encouraging a life-long love of reading.

As part of the program, the Crushers challenge local students to read twenty books throughout the month of March, which is also National Literacy Month. Each participant will receive a poster to help track the number of books read and students who meet their goal will receive two tickets to a Crushers game during the summer. To make the challenge more fun, the team helps motivate the students with assemblies and classroom visits by Crushers players and the mascot, Stomper.

The Crushers hit a homerun with the Reading Club in 2009 with 15 schools and more than 4,000 students participating in the program. At the end of March, more than 1,800 had reached their reading goal and earned tickets to a Crushers game. This season, the program has quadrupled in size, growing to 56 schools and more than 21,000 students in Lorain and Cuyahoga County.

The Crushers will kick off this season's program at Milan Elementary on Friday, February 19 at 9:00 a.m. Stomper and front office staff members will be hitting the road, visiting 31 schools in 16 days. For a complete schedule of school assemblies, please contact Nicolle Meyer at 440-934-3636 or nmeyer@lakeeriecrushers.com.
