The Edmonton Oil Kings are riding a six-game win streak and sitting atop the Eastern Conference after picking up a pair of impressive victories this past week.

On Saturday night, the Oil Kings opened their week by matching their season-high in goals as they throttled the Saskatoon Blades 9-1 and then followed that up with a 6-3 win on Family Day Monday over the top ranked team in the CHL, the Winnipeg ICE.

Sitting at 36-11-2-1 on the season, the Oil Kings maintain an eight-point cushion atop the Eastern Conference over the ICE and now lead the Red Deer Rebels by 10 points for top spot in the Central Division.

Highlight of the Week

On an already jaw-dropping night that saw Dylan Guenther score four goals, the Arizona Coyotes prospect went viral as he took his turn at pulling off "The Michigan".

Oil Kings 9 vs Saskatoon Blades 1 (Saturday)

Dylan Guenther had a historic night as he paced the Oil Kings with his first career four-goal game while his linemate Carter Souch added in a trio of assists. 13 of the 18 Oil Kings dressed in the game recorded at least a single point in one of the most dominant performances the Oil Kings have had all season.

Oil Kings 6 vs Winnipeg ICE 3 (Monday)

Despite getting into an early 2-0 hole against the number one ranked team in the CHL Top 10 Weekly Rankings, the Oil Kings stuck with it and thanks to a pair of goals each from Justin Sourdif and Josh Williams, the Oil Kings snagged their third win in four tries against the ICE this season. Carter Souch notched a second consecutive three-point game.

3. #24 Logan Dowhaniuk- The fourth year defenceman for the Oil Kings had a big week as he scored his first career shorthanded goal on Saturday night while also dishing out several punishing body checks from the back end. With his sixth goal of the season he has set a new career high in goals. On Saturday and Monday, he had the crowd on their feet after leveling bone crushing checks on Tyler Parr of the Saskatoon Blades and Chase Wheatcroft of the Winnipeg ICE. In his last four games, the Sherwood Park, AB product has a +9 plus/minus rating.

2. #44 Carter Souch - The Oil Kings alternate captain was simply unstoppable this past weekend as he grabbed six points in six periods of work. On Saturday night against the Blades, he collected three assists and then followed it up with a goal and two assists on Monday afternoon against the ICE. This season he has set new career highs in points (52), assists (37) and is just four goals away from setting a new mark in that category.

1. #11 Dylan Guenther - He scored four goals...in one game...and one was the Michigan...need we say more? Ok, we will. The Arizona Coyotes first rounder finished the weekend with four goals, one assist and reached the 30-goal mark for the first time in his WHL career and now sits 4th overall in the WHL goal scoring race with 32 goals, just five back of Ben King for first. His 62 points ranks 8th in the league. He has now scored 16 goals in his last 15 games.

Quick Hits

Dylan Guenther is the fourth Oil Kings player in franchise history to score four goals in a game joining Henrik Samuelsson, Michael St. Croix and T.J. Foster.

Dylan Guenther tied a franchise record for highest plus/minus in a single-game on Saturday by being a +6 on the night, joining Dysin Mayo, Blake Orban, Ethan Cap and Samuel Stewart.

After scoring two shorthanded goals on Saturday night against the Blades and one more on Monday afternoon against the ICE, the Oil Kings have now scored five shorthanded goals in their last five games and have a league-high 13 shorthanded goals this year.

The Oil Kings six-game win streak matches their longest win streak of the season.

Ethan Peters scored his third career goal on Saturday which will give him bragging rights in the Peters household as he bested his father Jason's career total of two, doing so in 72 less games. Jason was also a defenceman, playing in the WHL from 1988-92 and suiting up with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Victoria Cougars, Saskatoon Blades and Tri-City Americans.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics came to a close over the weekend and this year's games featured a ton of Oil Kings flavor. Former defenceman Martin Gernat claimed a bronze medal with Team Slovakia, while former Athletic Therapist Brian Cheeseman served in that capacity with Team Canada and former defenceman David Musil was a member of Team Czech Republic. All three are pictured below.

Next Up

The Oil Kings continue their six-game homestand this weekend with two more East Division opponents making stops at Rogers Place. First up, the team welcomes 16-year-old phenom Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats to town on Friday night before concluding the weekend with a date against reigning WHL Champions, the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday.

The Oil Kings are 2-1-0-0 against the Pats this season and are 4-1-0-0 against the Raiders.
