West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Casey Crosby was dominant as the West Michigan Whitecaps' starting pitcher as the Whitecaps trounced the Great Lakes Loons, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Loons were shut out for just the second time this year and both occasions were in this four-game series. The âCaps take three of the four games.
Casey Crosby was at his best on Sunday. The left-hander threw 5 innings of no-hit, shutout baseball against one of the best hitting teams in the Midwest League. Crosby walked one batter and struck out six. He improves his record to 6-2.
Rob Waite came on in the sixth for some great relief work. Waite tossed 3 innings of shutout action, and he only gave up one hit with no walks and 2 strikeouts.
West Michigan pounded out 13 hits for their 8 runs. Gustavo Nunez and Billy Nowlin led the attack with 3 hits apiece. Bryan Pounds had 2 doubles. Seven of the starting nine âCaps had at least one hit.
The Whitecaps broke the game open in the fourth with four runs against Loons' starter Jon Michael Redding. Eight âCaps came to the plate, and the offense was helped by poor Loons defense.
Redding lasted 4 innings, giving up 8 hits, 2 earned runs, no walks and 3 strikeouts. The loss makes his overall record 9-3.
After the scheduled off-day on Monday, the Whitecaps will travel to South Bend, IN for a four-game series beginning on Tuesday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
