Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The Green Bay Blizzard has announced that first-year DS David Crocker has been named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week by the af2 league office for his performance in Friday night's 69-41 win over the Birmingham Steeldogs.

In a game where the entire Green Bay "D" shined, Crocker (5-10, 202 Stephen F. Austin) was the engine behind the Blizzard defensive machine, posting 2 INTs, a fumble forced, a fumble recovered, a pass defensed and 6 tackles. He was responsible for the play of the game when, as the Blizzard held on to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, he had to play catch-up on a 38-yard pass play from Steeldogs QB Roger Linn to WR/DB Milas Randle. Instead of conceding the TD by just tackling Randle, Crocker ran down the speedy Steeldog at the 4-yard-line, wrestled the ball out of his arms and pounced on the fumble as the trailing players closed in. A scrum ensued, and when the smoke cleared, Crocker had emerged with the ball, the momentum and the Blizzard lead intact. The Blizzard would score on the ensuing drive to take a 10-0 lead and never look back.

When Crocker stepped up on D, his big plays couldn't have come at a better time. To wit, both of Crocker's INTs came with the Steeldogs in position to change the complexion of the game: the first "pick" was in the second quarter with the score 17-10 in favor of the Blizzard, and the second came in the fourth quarter with the Blizzard leading 38-24.

The award is the first of Crocker's professional career, and is the second such award won by a Blizzard player this season. DS Ryan Bowers was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his Week 7 performance as the Blizzard defeated the Louisville Fire 65-49 at the Resch Center.

The playoff-bound Blizzard is enjoying the league-wide bye honoring the Independence Day holiday, and hits the road for their next game, which will be Saturday, July 9th against the Quad City Steamwheelers. Earlier this season the Blizzard posted their first-ever win over the ‘Wheelers by means of a 56-49 victory in Green Bay.
