Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA- WR/LB Thomie Venisee has proven to be quite an asset to the Pioneers' offensive arsenal this season. Venisee was traded to the Pioneers from the Manchester Wolves on March 29th, just one day before their season opener.
So far this season, Venisee has a total of 35 receptions for 413 yards and 11 touchdowns. Venisee is fourth on the team in Scoring with 66 points and third in All-Purpose yards with 513. Defensively, Venisee has racked up 12.0 tackles; one of those for a loss, two interceptions for 14 yards and had broken up four passes.
When the team traveled to Georgia this past week, Venisee really shined. He was excited to be in his home state and even more excited to be playing in his hometown.
The Pioneers faced the Macon Knights on June 18th and finished with a disappointing 53-41 defeat. Venisee's stats were not as disappointing, however. He finished that game with five receptions for 82 yards and three touchdowns. He had one kickoff return for 10 yards and two tackles.
The following week, Pioneers traveled to Albany, Georgia, home of the South Georgia Wildcats and Venisee. Wilkes-Barre came out victorious over South Georgia 65-46. As Offensive Specialist for that game, Venisee had a career high, nine receptions for 107 yards and three touchdowns. He returned three kickoffs for 59 yards and finished the game with a total of 166 yards.
"It was great being back home and seeing family and friends again," says Venisee. "Not a lot of players get the chance to play professionally in their hometown, I am very fortunate to have that opportunity."
Thomie Venisee and the Pioneers will be back at home hosting the Albany Conquest on July 23rd at 7:30 PM at the Wachovia Arena. Single game and group tickets are now on sale. Anyone interested in purchasing Pioneers' tickets should contact the team's ticket sales office at either (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-5813. Tickets may also be purchased at the Wachovia Arena box office or online at Ticketmaster.com.
